26 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of
the damsel of the high priest:
27 And when she saw Peter
warming himself, she earnestly looked upon him, and said, Thou also wast with
Joshua of Galilee.
28 But he denied, saying, Woman I know
not, neither what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock
crew.
29 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them
that stood by, This is one of them.
30 And again he denied
with an oath, I do not know the man. And about the space of one hour after
31 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman
whose ear Peter cut off confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow
also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. Did not I see thee in the garden with
him?
32 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know
not this man of whom ye speak.
33 And immediately, while he
yet spake, the cock crew second time.
34 And the Lord
turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he
had said unto him , Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
36 And
the men that held Joshua mocked him, and smote him.
37 And
when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him,
saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
38 And many
other things blasphemously spake they against him.
