49 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the
bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, besought Pilate
that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away, for that Sabbath
day was an high day , [ For that very 14th day of that Nisan in which Christ was crucify fell on the fifth day (Thursday) of that week, therefore was the preparation for the high Sabbath of the Passover which ends at eve-ning of the sixth day (Friday, 15th day of that Nisan), according to the anniversary of their exodus on the fifteen Nisan of year One of their calendar, while the following day after the sixth day making the seventh day (Saturday 16th day of that Nisan) was the normal weekly Sabbath, for Christ rose up on the eighth day of the old week, which marks the first day(Sunday, 17th day of that Nisan) of the new week. ]
50 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other
which was crucified with him.
51 But when they came to
Joshua, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
52 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith
came there out blood and water.
53 And he that saw it bare
record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might
believe.
54 For these things were done, that the scripture
should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. And again another
scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
